Nehru Memorial School adopts the Cambridge International Primary Programme, which provides schools all over the world the framework to develop Mathematics, English, and Science skills and knowledge in young children. Cambridge Primary starts learners on an exciting educational journey. It develops young learners who are confident, responsible, reflective, innovative and engaged and includes assessment that proves and improves learning.


The faculty systematically builds students’ skills in reading comprehension, writing, grammar, speaking, listening and critical thinking.

Each year includes study of English literature and Shakespeare.

Completion of the Nehru English programme builds oral and written communication skills, as well as the analytical skills necessary for university work.


For over 65 years, Nehru students have engaged in the kind of learning which develops visionary, articulate, and ethical individuals equipped to achieve their full potential in leadership and in life. Our holistic approach to education is based on research that shows students learn best when they are known, challenged, and supported by adults they admire and respect – within an institution which insists on excellence.


The outdoor environment and the heart of the city setting of Nehru School ensure that the students constantly remain active and fit.

Nevertheless, the school’s Department of Physical Education (PE) has been designed to offer opportunities to students of all levels to participate in sports and fitness.

Physical Education and Health Sciences use sports as the principal medium to help develop the self-esteem of each student. Other aims are to prepare students to be responsible for their continued physical fitness and to develop skills that will be valuable in the positive use of leisure time.


Through facilitating the study of geography and global issues, history, politics, psychology and economics, the Social Studies Department helps students understand personal, national and international issues with the intent of producing competent, reflective and responsible global citizens. To enhance the interest of the students in the various subjects, a variety of teaching methods are used, incorporating technology, research papers, investigative projects, essays, debates, field trips, tests, quizzes and lecture-discussions.


At Nehru , students are actively encouraged to maintain and develop their home language, alongside English.

Research shows that in doing so, students develop not only their first language but deepen their potential in subsequent languages.


At Nehru we believe that the study of Mathematics is an integral part of education, relevant to all students, and possessing the potential to enrich any endeavour.

Nehru teachers use technology and innovative practices in a rigorous curriculum to equip students for success in their studies.

Nehru students learn critical-thinking skills and explore the merits and limitations of technology in Mathematics, employing graphing calculators and computers in certain explorations. Advanced high-school classes require the use of a graphing calculator.


Science is at the core of education policy worldwide; the skills of knowledge acquisition, understanding, problem-solving and data-handling that it imparts are recognised in all areas outside the purely scientific as valuable and worthwhile. Science provides the theoretical framework that technologists use – and have used – to drive the information revolution that we are still experiencing and that has built the foundations of all modern engineering, medicine and agriculture. It is widely recognised that the world needs more and better-trained scientists, and this is what we strive to develop in the Nehru Science faculty. Our teaching combines aspects of the traditional expository style with practical experimentation, co-operative learning and student-centred approaches.


Design technology aims to develop internationally-minded people whose enhanced understanding of design and the technological world can facilitate our shared guardianship of the planet and create a better world. Using the design cycle methodology, it aims to develop students’ skill in analysis, design development, synthesis and evaluation. Students learn the inquiry and analysis of problems, how to develop ideas, create feasible solutions, and test and evaluate their success. Whether using cutting-edge technology, including 3D printing, laser-cutting and robotics, or time-honoured techniques, students develop practical and design thinking skills


The Nehru curriculum requires students to learn English from KG to Grade 12 along with the national language Bahasa Indonesia .

Classes are generally taught by English Language & Bahasa Language Teachers.

Emphasis is placed on developing the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing through the most real-life situations possible using role-play, discussions, listening to and reading authentic documents, and the exchange of ideas. Classes require active participation from each student.


Nehru welcomes students from around the world. This cultural and linguistic diversity provides unique opportunities for all the students at the school.

In particular, the Check point in grade 6 & 9 has been designed to help students who have English as First language to access a Nehru education.

Our aim is to help students develop English skills that will allow them to be successful in their academic work and confident in everyday communication.

Students are guided toward a set of Desired Learning Outcomes which include the development of a profound sense of self, healthy interpersonal relationships, a deep sense of global citizenship, and the skills to flourish in today’s complex and interconnected world. Nehru students leave this place with a deep sense of identity, vocation, and purpose.

Students at Nehru have the option to explore drama both as an academic discipline and as an extracurricular activity. In academic classes, students practice the skills necessary for creating and performing theater across cultures, styles and time periods.

They exercise creative and critical thinking and reflect on their growth as artists. During the school day, Nehru puts up one major talent shoproduction each semester, ranging from Broadway-style musicals to improv competitions to original student-written plays. In addition to performing, students take on roles such as stage managers, designers, musicians, and even directors. Woodstock staff members also have been known to mount their own musical theatre productions—always to great critical acclaim!


Whether you’re pursuing a career as a professional artist, architect, graphic designer or any other art-related profession, or simply looking to broaden your appreciation of art, the Art Programme at Nehru has something for everyone.

Cambridge Primary Checkpoint is designed to assess learners at the end of Cambridge Primary. It is available in English, English as a second language, mathematics, science and Cambridge Global Perspectives. It gives valuable feedback on learners’ strengths and weaknesses before they progress to the next stage of education and provides schools with an external international benchmark for learner performance. Each learner receives a statement of achievement from Cambridge.
